What's New

There are many changes in Chat Watch 5.0. If you have previously used Chat Watch 4 please see the For Users of Chat Watch 4 guide which will help you to quickly become familiar with Chat Watch 5.

What's New in Version 5.0

  • New user interface and completely redesigned workings.
  • Chat logs can be searched for specific text and browsed by date.
  • Chat logs can be categorized.
  • Much improved speed loading and showing chat logs.
  • Removed the need for Stealth mode.
  • Chat logs can be saved as PDF documents.
  • The Event Log keeps a log of all Chat Watch's activities.
  • Support for Windows Vista.
  • The chat logs database can be copied to a mobile device running Windows Mobile 5.0.
  • Chat Watch.NET can be accessed from the main screen.
  • Chat logs can be synchronized with Chat Watch.NET.
  • Chat logs can be grouped by dates.
  • More secure through new security options which include using Windows authentication and token file authentication.
  • The chat log database can be backed up, restored, compacted, and verified.
  • Option to be notified via e-mail when a possibly inappropriate word is found in a chat log.
  • Using Tasks, the chat logs can be e-mailed or uploaded via SFTP at predetermined times.
  • Tasks allow much more flexibility, such as scheduling and advanced options.
  • Chat Watch does not have to be running when a task is scheduled to be run.

Features Changes in Version 5.0

  • Automatic E-Mailing - Called Tasks in Chat Watch 5. Tasks can be created to automatically e-mail you the chat logs and to upload the chat logs to an SFTP server.
  • Tasks can now be scheduled to run multiple times each day and Chat Watch does not have to be running for the tasks to execute.
  • Hot Key - The hot key is now not necessary to run Chat Watch hidden. The Advanced Hot Key option in Chat Watch 4 was removed and replaced by a single hot key that is now a three key combination instead of just a two key combination.
  • Security Methods - Chat Watch 4 only offered password protection to view the chat logs. In Chat Watch 5, you have the option of using four different authentication methods:
  • Windows Authentication
  • Allow All Administrator Users
  • Custom Password
  • Token file authentication

Features Removed in Version 5.0

  • Stealth mode - Chat Watch 5.0 is designed so that stealth mode is not necessary. Please see the "What Happened to Stealth Mode?" topic for more information on this change.
  • Chat Scheduling - To schedule when chatting is and is not allowed please see our other software Chat Controller . Chat Watch's primary focus is to monitor and log instant message conversations.
  • Option to Disable access to Windows' Task Manager - This is a very common trait of many spyware applications. Chat Watch is by no means spyware and we want to make sure our users understand that.
  • Support for Windows 2000, ME, 98, 95.
