Using Chat Watch Most Effectively
Chat Watch can be a very effective parental control software. To use
it most effectively please review the following suggestions.
Monitoring Children
When monitoring your children's instant messages we always recommend
that you first explain to your children what you are doing and why. If
appropriate, tell your children that the internet can be a dangerous
place and that you are helping to protect them. If you are concerned
about your children's online activities, telling your children that
their instant messages are being monitored is often a strong deterrent
and your children will be hesitant to participate in any inappropriate
chats. For more see the Parental Considerations .
Monitoring Employees
The first thing to do when monitoring the instant messages of
employees is to make an acceptable usage policy for your company and
notifying the employees of the policy. Monitoring your employees' chats
without their knowledge is not only a bad practice but also may be
against the law. You can use Chat Watch's User Notification option to
show the user your usage policy each time the user logs on to the
computer.
General Recommendations
We do not recommend monitoring the instant messages of anybody
without their knowledge, exceptions to this include use of Chat Watch by
law enforcement agencies where such actions are necessary.
It is against the Chat Watch End User License Agreement to install or
use Chat Watch on any computer that you do not own or are not the
computer's administrator. To enforce this Chat Watch can only be
installed by a user who has administrator privileges on the computer.
For more see the Security Considerations . (By design, Chat Watch can
not be installed by a Limited User on Windows XP or a Restricted User on
Windows 2003.)
