E-Mail Settings
The e-mail settings are used whenever Chat Watch needs to send you an
e-mail message. This occurs when a task is run that is configured to
automatically e-mail you the chat logs or when the option to notify you
when a chat log contains a possibly inappropriate word is found is
selected.
To access the e-mail settings open Chat Watch and click the Settings
button on Chat Watch's toolbar. Next, click E-Mail Settings.
Note: If you do not know what to use for any of the mail settings
please contact your internet service provider (ISP) or refer to their
documentation. We do not know this information as it is specific to your
internet connection. You can use
Google's GMail service with Chat Watch's automatic e-mailing.
After you have entered the required e-mail settings click the Send
Test E-Mail button. Chat Watch will then use the e-mail settings you
entered to attempt to send a test e-mail to you (to the address entered
in My E-Mail Address). If you receive the e-mail then you are ready to
go! If not, then double-check your settings and verify them with your
internet service provider if necessary. If an error is encountered while
sending the test e-mail you will be notified.
Description of Fields
- My E-Mail Address - Enter your e-mail address here. This is the
address Chat Watch will send your chat logs and notification e-mails
to.
- SMTP Server - This is the SMTP server that you use to send
e-mail. The SMTP server will be in a format similar to mail.isp.com
or just isp.com. If you are unsure of your SMTP server you must
contact your internet service provider.
- Port - This is the port that the SMTP server runs on. In most
cases this will be 25, unless the SMTP server requires encryption
and then the port may be 465.
- SMTP server requires authentication - Select this option if your
SMTP server requires you to authenticate yourself before you can
send e-mail.
- User Name - This is your user name for your SMTP server. This is
typically your e-mail address but can vary.
- Password - This is your password for your SMTP server.
- SMTP server requires SSL encryption - If your SMTP server
requires that all mail be sent through a secure (SSL) connection
then select this option.
Common Problems
Firewalls - If the test e-mail connection times out check your firewall settings.
Make sure that Chat Watch is allowed to contact the SMTP server on the
port provided to send the test e-mail.
Free E-Mail Accounts - Many free e-mail accounts (Hotmail, Yahoo!) may not allow mail to be
sent through them. GMail is one free e-mail provider that does.

here for instructions on configuring Chat Watch to send e-mail using
GMail.
Spam Filters and Spam Folders - If the mail is sent fine but it does not arrive in your inbox make
sure to check your spam filter or spam folder. |
